National Medical Laboratory Week celebrates you, medical laboratory professionals across Canada, to honour your work and commitment to patient care.

Since 1985, the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science has sponsored a week in April to promote awareness and understanding of medical laboratory professionals. Too often the profession is overlooked, but your impact to the health care system is extraordinary. We are proud to support and highlight such an important week that allows members to celebrate and advocate for the profession.

Traditionally, CSMLS provides free marketing collateral and resources to help members create displays and engage in grassroots marketing activities in order to spread their message and educate the general public. Members can order free items and find other celebration toolkits at

Raising awareness of laboratory work helps our members experience increased job satisfaction, better workplace morale and higher recruitment and retention in the profession. Each year, CSMLS creates a website to help the public learn more about medical laboratory professionals and the impact they make in health care. You can find sharable information about the profession at

Be a Lab Week Leader!

As the national serving bodies for MLPs, we encourage all members to be Lab Week Leaders. Here’s how you can support your professional community:

There is no better way to learn about the profession then directly from a medical laboratory professional. This is your chance to let the public know what you do!

Advocate through social media platforms with Lab Week hashtags (e.g., #LabWeek2023) and #MedLab. We can’t wait to see and hear all the #Labvocate action!

Celebrating is the best part. This is YOUR week – make it a big deal!

Plan an event for you and your coworkers to celebrate the hard work you do. Remember, you are a vital role in health care.

Be sure to share all of our celebrations on social media and tag us so you can repost!

There are several things you can do to advocate and celebrate, and CSMLS has the tools to help! Our Lab Week Handbook has information, tips and tools to help make your Lab Week extra special this year.
